Located in Ludington State Park, the Big Sable Lighthouse stands 112' above the shore of Lake Michigan. Built in 1867, it is 4' taller and 7 years older than it's sister to the south, Little Sable.
Viewing this lighthouse does come with a 1.5 mile walk up the beach or on a hiking trail. It is quite a walk, but it gives you the feel of how secluded these lighthouses were when they were built. The grounds around this light offered many different views. From beachfront, to high on the dunes, it was worth the hike.
