Roughly two hours northwest of Manistique, is Marquette, MI. It is a beautiful town. It just has a great feel to it. Definitely thought I could live there. The picturesque bluff town was our first stop on Lake Superior.
The current Marquette Lighthouse was built in 1865. It replaced the original 1853 structure that was quickly destroyed by weather. Constructed on top of a rock bluff, the 40' structure sits 77' above Lake Superior, and is one of the oldest buildings in Marquette. As I hiked around the rocky shores that built up to the lighthouse, I looked back at the town, and it made me feel like I was in a Hitchcock film.
This is a very, very, cool place. I would highly recommend making a trip up there.
